为什么你的语法那么别扭？

今天我们要说一个困扰许多朋友的问题：语法。

老实说，中国的语法教学，是超级反人性的。打击了太多人的英语学习兴趣和自信。让人惧怕英语、远离英语。

语法超级重大，大家不能抛弃语法。

但更重大的是，清楚怎么学语法，才是有用的、有效的！

In the traditional English teaching approach in China, grammar is like a monster: 在中国传统的英语教学里，语法就像洪水猛兽

It's so technical and theoretical: 由于实在太理论了

Our teachers told us to memorize and understand grammar rules before we could use English: 先学先背语法规则，才能说英语、用英语

That's the theory. Well, dumb theory: 这就是理论，但是，是愚蠢的理论。

所以对于native speaker来说并不怎么常见这种分析句子成分的词，但是词性

（part of speech）倒是必定会学。

We didn't have grammar classes. We learned grammar through reading and writing: 我们没有独立的语法课。我们学语法就是通过阅读和写

The stand-alone approach to grammar doesn't work: 把语法单独分出来的教学效果是很差的

The stand-alone approach will start with the rules: 这种语法分隔的教学法会先给规则

But after learning those really abstract rules, you're confused as hell: 但是学完规则，大多数人已经晕了

Or too scared: 或者被吓跑了

不要从语法切入

要从高频场景、高频语言入手

Learning English as a second English is different from first language acquisition, but there're still common rules:当然二语学习跟母语是不一样的，但是还是有一些共同点

For example, do not start learning English from learning grammar rules: 列如，不要以语法为切入点来学英语

You need to start with high frequency situations and high frequency language: 从高频场景和高频语言切入

Expose yourself to natural English input, native speaking resources: 多接触自然的英语输入、英语资源

You can learn the grammar pattern afterwards and apply it in more general contexts: 然后再总结语法规则，后来可以更广泛应用

But never start the other way around：学语法，千万别倒过来、本末倒置

我们也常常会收到一些用户问题，列如

How do I use inverted sentences：倒装句怎么用？

你有没有想过，平时为什么要用倒装句？Why am I even using inverted sentences?

This grammar point is very formal: 这个语法点只用在超级正式的情况下

就像”Never have I heard it before”，”Nowhere can I find my lost watch”,这些句子都是一些日常的场景。

You don't need to use inverted sentences in common everyday situations: 日常不太用倒装句

Instead of saying “Nowhere can I find my lost watch”, you can just say “I can't find my watch anywhere”: 根本不需要说”Nowhere can I find my lost watch”，说““I can't find my watch anywhere”

So never learn grammar from rules, from principles, from the book. Always start with real-life situations: 所以大家学语法必定不要先去找语法书、先去背一大堆规则。而是要从实际生活出发。

This is not what language is supposed to be. It's not first finding the structure and then saying something. 语言不应该是这个样子的，不是先找到结构再去表达.

It should be you expressing yourself, hopefully using the right structure：语言的目的是帮你表达自己，用最恰当的方式

所以我们的宗旨是教大家在日常生活中能用的英语，教大家怎么在特定场景下表达。

这里想帮大家树立一些容易上手的语法学习方法。

Yes you keep saying “用得到的”. I would like to think of it as “low-hanging fruit”. Start with the low-hanging fruit before you get to the top of the tree. “Low-hanging fruit”就是树上挂得最低，垂手可得的那些水果，也就是最常用，最容易改正的语法错误。

最后真诚地跟大家说：

多听多看多用英语，把自己浸泡在最自然的英语环境之下，树立一种正确的英语使用习惯、语感。

再去总结语法。
